What is Physiotherapy?

A Paediatric Physiotherapist specializes in the movement and motor development of infants and children within the context of the developing child.  Physiotherapists assess developmental milestones and provide treatment to facilitate the acquisition and progression of gross motor skills.  Using play activities, the therapist helps the child to achieve optimal mobility and participation at home and in the community.

Generally, the earlier therapy starts the better!

Intervention may include:

  • Maintaining or improving range of motion

  • Promoting mobility

  • Postural control

  • Gait training

  • Improving strength

  • Balance training
